1952 Allard K2

The K2 gave performance on the road or track.The big V-8 engines competed at the highest level of motor sports.

Sydney Herbert Allard was an enthusiast who enjoyed competing in the big engine sports car racing. The 1952 Allard K2 Roadster powered by a Cadillac 331 cubic-inch OHV V8 (5.4L) fitted with a pair of 4-barrel carburetors to produce 250-270 hp. The power to weight ratio weighing just 2,072 pounds made the Allard K2 a formidable competitor at racing events. The K2 Allard's could reach speeds over 130-140 mph. The K2 proved a highly competive international race car for the 1950's. K2s compiled 40 first-place finishes, 32 seconds, 30 thirds, both Zora Duntov and Carroll Shelby raced K2s in the early 1950s. Only 113 K2s were produced between 1950 and 1952. The verified survival is difficult to confirm estimates are only 25 to 50 examples of the K2 may still exist. Generally speaking, the purchaser could almost pick his own choice of engines as they were hand made cars. The K2 is a highly sought after sports car considered a significant part of European and American road racing on both sides of the Atlantic. The K2 is a true racing legend.

Purchased in 1952 and exported from the U.K. to Minnesota, it was originally outfitted with a Ford engine. It was period converted to its current 331 cubic inch (5.4L) Cadillac OHV V8 engine by a previous owner. Purchased by Dr. John and Betty Hunholz in the 1970's, this vehicle was an intergral part of the Hunholz collection. During the decades that the Hunholz's owned this vehicle, it was shown and raced on the West Coast of the U.S. and Canada. shows and races include events at Westwood in the 1980's, SIR in the 1990's, and it was shown and driven by Betty Hunholz at the 1990 Monterey Historic Race when Allard was the marque of the 40th Anniversary Pebble Beach Road Races.
